For this project, I worked closely with Madison Cooke, lead singer of The Marley Moon, to develop the album artwork for Everything Is Real. Collaborating with a photographer, we combined hand-drawn typography, scanned elements, and photo enhancements to create a raw, organic, and visually compelling design that reflected the album’s aesthetic.
This project involved photo retouching, integrating hand-drawn text, and adding scanned objects, blending traditional artistry with digital refinement.
The goal was to create album artwork that:
- Captured the band's artistic and authentic aesthetic
- Seamlessly blended photography with hand-drawn elements
- Maintained a cohesive and balanced design with organic textures
Madison and I decided to incorporate hand-drawn typography, scanning and digitizing the letters for an authentic, custom look. Additionally, we worked with scanned objects to enhance the composition, adding unique, real-world textures that emphasized the handmade feel of the artwork.
To achieve the desired organic and artistic look, we:
- Selected and refined the best photos from the shoot, focusing on lighting, composition, and clarity.
- Experimented with different hand-drawn lettering styles, ensuring they fit naturally into the artwork.
- Scanned and incorporated additional physical textures and objects, blending them seamlessly into the digital composition.
Using Adobe Photoshop, I worked through multiple design iterations, refining the composition, textures, and typography placement to create a cohesive final piece.
Key design steps included:
- Retouching and enhancing the original photography for a clean yet natural look.
- Scanning, digitizing, and refining hand-drawn typography to integrate seamlessly.
- Adding scanned textures and objects for depth and authenticity.
- Fine-tuning the overall composition to ensure a balanced, professional final design.
After final refinements, Madison and I reviewed the artwork together, ensuring that the typography, photography, and additional elements worked harmoniously. The final result is a visually rich, handcrafted album cover that embodies the essence of Everything Is Real while maintaining a strong artistic identity.
